Baltimore Messenger | Speedy Gilman star flies on field and ice

This article discusses U.S. short track skater Zach Goldberg, voted the newspaper's 2004 Male Athlete of the Year for his achievements in speedskating and lacrosse. Zach has won national age group and North American titles in short track, and finished 16th overall at the U.S. Championships in Cleveland.

The article has a few mentions of Apolo, including this passage:

[Goldberg] has raced against ... 2002 Olympic medalist Apolo Anton Ohno. "He's unbelievable," Goldberg said. "He blew me away each time."

Although he is humble about his achievements, Goldberg is quick to point out that he was ahead of Ohno for a few laps in a sprint at the world trials in February. "Then he started trying," Goldberg said of Ohno, who eventually won the race.

Here's more on the sports festival planned for Seattle next summer:

Everett (WA) Daily Herald | Everett may get Olympic tie-in

Beginning in summer 2005, Olympic athletes could be speed skating or playing volleyball at the Everett Events Center.

The event, to be called the USA-China Invitational... could run for three consecutive summers,... and could draw Olympic teams from China, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Letters of commitment to participate have been sent by both the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Chinese Olympic Committee to the Seattle Organizing Committee.

The events center ice rink would need to be expanded from National Hockey League to Olympic-sized ice, but Bedier said the events center could find a way to make it work.

Many details of the event are still up in the air, and official announcement of the games won't come until July.
