Xinhua | China's Wang Meng surpasses two world records

Canadian Press | Canada wins silver and bronze at short track speedskating team world championship

The Americans defeated Canada in the 5,000-metre relay to cement the gold medal. The Canadians led the race with one lap to go when Apolo Anton Ohno of the U.S., made a spectacular pass to move from third to first.

"We would have really liked gold, especially that it went right down to the wire," said [Marc-Andre] Monette. "But looking back we had a great battle with the Americans and Koreans and came out of it pretty well.

"This is a very intense competition with a completely different feeling and atmosphere than an individual world championships. Because you're racing for your team you feel an extra shot of adrenaline for each race."

"We're very satisfied with our performance," said [Kalyna] Roberge who battled back pains this weekend. "The Chinese and Koreans are stronger than ever and we did a good job fending off an improving American team."

Salt Lake Tribune | U.S. wins short track world title

Boston Globe | Short and Sweet

Huge double for the US males at the world short-track speedskating championships. Apolo Anton Ohno, who had skipped most of the World Cup circuit, won the title on the Koreans' home ice despite being disqualified in the opening race. Then Ohno and his countrymen went to China and won their first team title there. The Chinese women, as expected, claimed the individual (Wang Meng) and team crowns. Katherine Reutter, the most promising American-born women's skater in years, was seventh overall and medaled in the 3,000.
