Double-bronze for Team USA in Torino - 1000m finals
Jordan Malone and Katherine Reutter both reached the podium today at World Cup #4, bringing home 1000m bronze against some crazy-tough fields. ... but mixed results in the relay semis. The U.S. ladies skated great and won their semi to advance to tomorrow's A final against Italy, Korea and China. Way to go, ladies! The guys, on the other hand, can't seem to stay on their feet. They should have won their semi, and were well-positioned to do so, but an apparent fall with about 23 laps to go took them out of contention. That's two weekends in a row of rotten luck for the guys! Better luck in World Cups #5 and 6, let's hope!

Final update from Heerenveen: Men's relay final
Thanks again to Beth and Phil Bedford for all the great updates and photos from World Cup 3 over the weekend!
Men's 5000m relay - A final results
1. KOREA 6:59.774
2. CHINA 6:59.916
3. JAPAN 7:05.774
4. GERMANY 7:06.965
5. UNITED STATES 7:15.060
The relay started off smooth, with all 5 teams together. Korea then took the lead and the field started to spread. The US was with China and then we fells. We were 1/2 lap behind the teams in 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and then Korea then fell. China took the lead and Korea began to chase them down for first place, which happened with 2 laps to go. In the meantime, another team fell and the US\ passed the other team, so we were sitting in 3rd with about 6 laps to go. The US then fell again, and wounds up finishing 5th.

How other Americans fared: J.P. Kepka finished 4th in the repechage A final. He was advanced to the quarterfinals due to the disqualification of a British skater in that race. J.P. was subsequently disqualified himself in his quarterfinal race. Ryan Bedford was eliminated earlier on after finishing 4th in his repechage quarterfinal race.
