Apolo Ohno to be inducted into Asian Hall of Fame

AP | Apolo Ohno to be inducted into Asian hall of fame

The Asian Hall of Fame will induct speed skater Apolo Ohno at a ceremony in Seattle next week. The two-time Olympic gold medalist is one of two inductees for 200. Attorney Loida Nicholas Lewis will also be inducted. She is the chair of an investment firm. Past recipients of the honor include former Governor Gary Locke and actor Yuji Okumoto.

The Asian Hall of Fame was founded in Seattle in 2004. The organization hopes to take its work national.

Congratulations, Apolo!

Latest Dancing With the Stars links

I'm a bit late with these - my apologies!

USA Today | Reality update: Clyde out

Apolo Anton Ohno and Laila Ali keep tearing it up on Dancing with the Stars, much to the delight of the good folks at Ohnozone.

Air kisses to Beau Dure!

ABC News | Apolo's Dance of the Week

TV Guide | Backstage at Dancing with the Stars: Lisa Rinna Brings Sexy Back!

Comedian Kathy Griffin, sitting ringside, was smitten with the show's new golden boy, Apolo Anton Ohno, who performed an encore of his perfect-scoring samba from the night before. "I loved Apolo with the Tiger Lady," says Griffin, referring to Ohno's pro partner, Julianne Hough, who was outfitted in a tiger-striped leotard. "I don't know what the dance is called, and I don't care."

Um, you're going to have to click the link if you want to see what Macy Gray had to say. *blush*

MSNBC | No surprise on ‘Dancing With the Stars'

Apolo and Julianne are well positioned to win the competition, as proved by the anticipatory screaming of the audience before judge Len Goodman could even get Apolo’s name out. His brand of self-deprecating, not-too-perfect male dancer is one of the most successful “types” in this competition, and Apolo is playing his part perfectly. Of course, their repeat of their samba was also good news in that it further ensured that none of us will ever get “I like to move it, move it” out of our heads any time in the next, say, three weeks.

Chicago Sun Times: "Thanks to his star turn on ''Dancing With the Stars,'' Olympic skating champ Apolo Anton Ohno reportedly is being swamped with all kinds of potential TV and film offers from Tinseltown."

Dancing with the Stars - week 5 results show

Apolo and Julianne get the well-deserved encore tonight. Yes! Congratulations, you two.

OMG! Carol Brady, in the audience: 'That Apolo is one hot little number.'

First 2 safe couples: Laila & Maks and John & Edyta

Jimmy Kimmel demos one of next week's dances - the swing.

Apolo allows as how getting his makeup done makes him 'feel a little feminine.'

Next 2 safe couples: Apolo & Julianne (a foregone conclusion!) and Joey & Kym

Apolo says he tries to take the judges' feedback constructively and apply it to the next week's dance, which a) sounds exactly like Apolo, and b) is apparent in his progress from week to week.

Last 2 safe couples: Ian & Cheryl and Billy Ray & Karina
Bottom 2: Clyde & Elena and Heather & Jonathan

That's kind of insane.

And it's Clyde & Elena exiting this week. That is sane, at least.

DWTS post-mortem - week 5

LA Daily News | APOLO TAKES OFF

First comes speed skating, then comes dancing, next comes acting? That seems to be the way things are heading for "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Apolo Anton Ohno, who along with his partner Julianne Hough, has been wowing the show's judges. "There are a lot of interesting opportunities that have come up - movie scripts, certain acting opportunities, TV shows. We're just going to make sure that it's going to be done in the right way - and make sure I'm doing the things I want to do and that best fit me and my personality," says the two-time Olympic gold-medal-winning athlete.

MSNBC | Olympian Ohno scores gold on ‘Dancing’

Apolo ... absolutely dominated, saying that he had to get the samba right for his partner, Julianne, because it’s her favorite dance. Her close attention to detail paid off with the first perfect 30 of the year, moving Apolo and Julianne out of that “good but not a real threat” level.

Where have you been since March 19, dude?

TV Squad | Dancing With The Stars: Week 5

Apolo Anton Ohno and Julianne Hough (Samba) - Apolo confessed that he desperately wanted a 10, and he got three of them. The first perfect score of the season was well-deserved. Apolo and Julianne did their best to go from cute to sexy, and they pulled it off. I actually doubted their ability to move away from their cute image, but they proved me wrong. At first I thought that Julianne's hair and costume made her look like Olivia Newton-John at the very end of Grease (sweet, but unconvincing as a bad girl). By the end of the dance, I was blown away by how Apolo and Julianne transformed themselves into a smokin' hot couple. These two can really get into the spirit of every dance that they perform. Len said that all of the elements of their performance came together, and Carrie Ann called the Samba "perfection." They have to get the encore tomorrow, and I cannot wait to see them dance again. Score: 30 (10,10,10) Woohoo!

EW.com | Mad Hot Ballroom

Apolo Anton Ohno (Perfect 30) Yes! This is what I'm talking about. Though I've casually enjoyed some of the stars' personalities this season, none of the actual dances have had me gaping at the screen the way Apolo's samba with Julianne did. Not only did he get all the steps right while moving his hips, but the dance also contained, like, 50 more elements than all the others. Julianne could be the season 2 Cheryl of season 4 — you know she's the one behind the lightning-fast choreo, and yet it's easy to focus on the guy and believe he's doing the leading, which he was. My favorite was that series of the same looping-leg move. Perhaps a rond de jambe? Am I really whipping out a fourth-grade ballet ref? There's his leg looping. Now hers! His! And they're spinning....

Palm Beach Post | My Weekly 'Dancing with the Stars' Report Card

Apolo Anton Ohno: Apolo and Julianne look so gosh darn cute together. Like little puppies on Ecstasy. You just want to pinch their cute, wittle cheeks! Woof! Woof! OK, I’ll stop. Grade: A-

AP | Athlete nails first perfect score on 'Dancing', but it's not Drexler

San Jose Mercury-News | Dancing With the Stars — Perfect “30″ for Apolo Anton Ohno; Laila Ali back to form

The thing that continues to amaze me is that Julianne is only 18. At the start of the season, I really thought that would be a disadvantage because her choreography, maybe, would reflect her youth. Whatever she’s doing, it’s appealing and bringing out the best in Apolo. They’ve definitely set the bar.

Orlando Sentinel | Apolo Anton Ohno delivers perfectly on a diverting "Dancing With the Stars"

TV Squad | Heather Mills faked it

Mills danced an almost perfect number and, for some reason, felt the need to stage a mistake and choreograph a fall. Her partner also choreographed a caring response to her fall.

Apolo Anton Ohno was there with his dancing partner, Julianne Hough, and the Olympic gold medalist admitted to feeling a little out of place on the catwalk. "This is my first fashion show I'm actually walking down, so it's going to be interesting to see," joked Apolo. "We're going to freestyle and see what happens. I'll have a move. It's going to be called the 'Slip, Fall, Jump, Roll, Get on the Floor and Just Flail, and then Get Back Up.'"
