Apolo in Hawaii!

Apolo visits Hawaii next week, where he'll be honored at the Victor Sports Awards (tv schedule TBA), and feted at various high-profile events around the state.

Hawaii will proclaim Apolo Anton Ohno Day on July 28, and the Mayor of Honolulu will present Apolo the key to the city that same day.

Very exciting news, and I know his dinner with Kimo and Jan is sure to be a blast!

You can check out Apolo's complete schedule on AAO.com.

[update] The TV schedule for the Victor Awards is available - click here to download (in PDF). I'm not sure what FSN is, but it looks like it's airing on Comcast in some areas and on August 5 in most cases.

[update 2] Theresa (and many others) have pointed out that FSN stands for Fox Sports Network. Although times are listed in the PDF document linked above, it doesn't hurt to also check your local tv listings for air dates.

Short track in August!

It's pretty exciting to discover that not only does the first (pre-)season short track competition get underway just a couple weeks from now, but it's also taking place in my state! The Virginia Commonwealth Games will be held in Richmond on August 5, in conjunction with a speedskating camp the week of August 4-10. National team members Jordan Malone and Halie Kim will be on hand all week to take part in the camp!

Click for more details on the camp and the Virginia Commonwealth Games. Yay, Virginia!

All this means that short track season is right around the corner!

If only the ISU would get on the ball and tell us where the North American World Cups will be held already (they're five short months away! same amount of time that's passed since Torino!)... *sigh*
