World Championships on TV April 15

Info via US Speedskating:

The Comcast Network (CN8) will broadcast the 2006 World Short Track Championships on Saturday, April 15 at 7pm in areas that are serviced by Comcast. To check if you'll be able to view it, please visit www.cn8.com and type in your zip code.

While CN8 will be televising the 2006 World Short Track Championships on the east coast this weekend, the following Comcast stations will be airing the event at an as-yet-unknown later date: CNW14 - Portland, CSNWest- Sacramento, CSN - Chicago, Comcast Local - Detroit, CSS Comcast Sports - Southeast region, CSN - New York

I can't believe this. I live in an 'area serviced by Comcast' but CN8.com has never heard of my zip code!

OZ - the next generation!

The friend whom we all know and love as Yano gave birth to her son Benjamin Christopher 16 days early. His speedy arrival into the world seems appropriate for this future 'hottie on skates.' Look for YanoJrZone.net about 18 years from now!

Congratulations to the proud parents! And please drop by Yano's blog to post your well wishes and marvel at little Benjy Estacio's cuteness!

Worlds photo gallery

Professional photographer Caroline Yang was shooting the Worlds for USS and she sent me a link to her stunning photo gallery from the event.

Hopefully more of her work from that weekend will surface before long because these shots are incredibly gorgeous!

Nick & Cassie's Skate Molding Experience

Last week in Minneapolis. two members of the OZ community, Nick Ah Kun and Cassie Dins, had their feet molded by skater and skate-maker Mathieu Turcotte, who approaches his work with great professionalism and attention to detail.

Mathieu - an Olympic gold, silver and bronze medalist - is the founder and president of Apex Racing Skates. Apex boots are worn by many of the top skaters in the world today.

Click to see the step-by-step process of Mathieu molding Cassie's and Nicks' feet.

The reveal! Mathieu displays the mold for the bottom section of Cassie's boot

Over the years short track fans have heard a lot of talk about skaters getting fitted for custom boots, and this was our chance to peek behind the scenes to see what's involved.

Many thanks to Mathieu Turcotte, Nick Ah Kun, Cassie Dins and Jonathan Guilmette for making this opportunity possible!

Latest Korean news

More on this sad story...

Korea Times | Korean Skaters Come Apart

Deeper conflicts within the team appear to arise from the training program that pits teammates against one another, with two coaches handling the two different squads that compete against each other.... The two groups are separated in training and participate in events under different tactics.
Ahn Hyun-soo said that the growing rivalry is taking its toll. On his personal Website, he said ``It's too tough for me. I feel ashamed, it's like I can't get over this. Skating was everything for me since I started. But now the discord between the two factions makes me think about quitting. Now things will not be the same as they used to be.''
To begin to restore order, the KSU said it would seek to reunify the team. It said a one-coach system aided by an assistant would be instituted.

What a shame that the 'grownups' are ruining Ahn's (and the entire Korean team's) moments of triumph!
