Scenes from Apolo's 1000m semifinal in Saguenay

This race was particularly exciting for 2 reasons: 1) it was an all-North American semi, with 2 Americans and 2 Canadians in contention, and 2) because it was Alex Izykowki's 1st World Cup semifinal race. In the end, Apolo Ohno and Mathieu Turcotte advanced to the 1000m final.

Apolo wins the race, followed by Mathieu Turcotte and Jonathan Guilmette (exhibiting his dinstinctive arm swing!)

Nice effort by Izy!

You can see a few more shots from this race in the Saguenay day 3 photo gallery.

Apolo and Bridie Farrell

Love this story that Linda provided to go with this photo and the 2 that follow: "Our club skater Elise presented Apolo with a story she'd written about him as a school assignment. Bridie did the honors of reading it to him as Elise looked on. Then Elise had Apolo sign her book, her helmet, and her skates."

Wanna help set a new record?

If you'll be near Salt Lake this Saturday (Aug.6), you can help set a new Guinness world record for most people on an ice facility at one time: Oval aims for record skate party

I guess Scott Koons is getting addicted to setting records!
