Short track season about to get underway
Somehow the off-season always seems endless (I suppose the skaters might feel differently, though!). The competitive season will be underway shortly with U.S. skaters gearing up for competitions this month in Calgary as well as World Cups 1 and 2 in China.
The U.S. team leaves next Wednesday for Calgary. The skaters who aren't on the World Cup team will have the chance to compete the weekend of Oct. 15-17 at the Calgary Oval. The World Cup team will spend a few days training there before departing Calgary for China.
World Cup #1 takes place in Harbin Oct. 22-24. World Cup #2 will be in Beijing Oct. 29-31.

Men: Apolo Anton Ohno, Rusty Smith, Shani Davis, J.P. Kepka
Women: Hyo-jung Kim, Allison Baver, Maria Garcia, Kristen Biondo
(note: Caroline Hallisey was eligible to skate but she is not going to China)
Derrick Campbell and Li Yan will share the coaching and team leader duties in China.
