Interesting note: Word around the rink in Ottawa is that Francois-Louis Tremblay skated on brand-new test blades from Bont that he just received in the past week or so. The blades were developed and refined with input from the Korean short track team and are generating some buzz after Tremblay skated to a 2nd-place finish overall at this weekend's trials.

3000m Results

In the men's 3000m, Eric Bédard started fast but quickly abandoned any thoughts of trying to lap the pack. Tremblay was leading near the end of the race, but Frédéric Blackburn and Mathieu Giroux came in for 1st and 2nd in the end. Jeff Scholten, skating in 8th for much of the race, made a very nice move in the final 2 laps to finish 3rd.

In the ladies' 3000m, Chantale Sévigny and Florence Godon both made moves to lap the pack at about 10 laps to go. Godon succeeded and won the race. Mélanie Gagnon and Raphaele Lemieux were starting to close the gap near the end, and Gagnon overtook Lemieux for 2nd in the last corner.
