Barb Freeland's Colorado Springs Trip

Barb Freeland's Colorado Springs Trip Report

Apolo, Barb, Cody and Kyle Kirkland

Barb Freeland, founder of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Foundation, recently returned from visiting Colorado Springs and the Kirkland family. The PHTF is a non-profit set up to help kids like Cody Kirkland and their families, and it's this organization that is sponsoring the 'Operation Kirkland' raffle. While Barb was in Colorado Springs she was also able to spend some time with Apolo and watch the national team practice. She sends us this report and pictures from her trip:

Marquette Tickets for Kids Project

Marquette Tickets for Kids Project

This info just in from Neil (for more info, please visit the World Cup Marquette planning group):

We have a Marquette "sponsor" for our “Tickets for Kids” project – and a place to send our (hopefully) tax-deductible donations that will not only benefit the Foster Children of Marquette, but also aid the U.S. Olympic Education Center.

I spoke with Brad Jurmu of the Marquette Area Junior Chamber of Commerce (the “Jaycees”). His organization is already a sponsor of the Marquette World Cup, and they have made the USOEC the focus of their fund-raising efforts this year. They have a luxury box for the races that they will make available for the kids, and he will contact local sponsors to see about getting box-lunches and beverages to the arena for the children.

Mr. Jurmu and the Jaycees are ready to receive our donations, and purchase the tickets for the kids. Any excess funds will be donated to the USOEC!

Penny Hubble of the USOEC is inquiring about getting us the tickets at a fixed price – maybe as low as $3 each. What I am asking you to do is donate at a figure of $4 or $5 per ticket – knowing that you will assure the maximum number of kids can attend the skating events, and that anything left over will go to the winter sports training program.

Please make out your donation checks to the “Marquette Area Jaycees”, with “Tickets for Kids” on the memo line, and send them to:

Marquette Area Jaycees
P.O. Box 521
Marquette, MI 49855
Attn: “Tickets for Kids”
