Salt Lake Tribune Article - Zoutou
Look what is in today's Salt Lake Tribune!
Ohno wins gold off ice with his charity work
"Declaring a 'lifelong commitment' to charity work, Olympic hero Apolo Anton Ohno took a break from a summer training camp at the Olympic Oval on Thursday to praise the work of the Ronald McDonald House Charities with which he is involved."
A great plug for Zoutou:
"Using a Web site -- http://st-gear.com/zoutou/ -- to promote the project, the fans are aiming to raise at least $10,000 and earn a room bearing Ohno's name in the Ronald McDonald House at 935 E. South Temple. So far, the charity has received $2,411 from Ohno fans."

Zoutou Update
April sends this update on the progress of Zoutou:
"I must Apologize for the late updates, but SLC RMH has great news for Zoutou! Here is our current tally: $2,381.50!
Can I get a WOO HOO? This is amazing and just proves the fans come through every time. Keep spreading the word about Zoutou, we'll be to our goal in no time! We've been informed that RMH Salt Lake City will be sending the tallies at least once every 2 weeks, or as the donations come in.
And please, don't forget, once you donate and get your donation receipt/thank you from RMH, send it in to us to receive your Zoutou Certificate of Appreciation & your name on the Contributor's list! I'm so excited, thank you SO much to Molly for her work behind the scenes, and most of all, The Fans. It's not a surprise that Apolo has the greatest fans on earth!"

know him from adam: Apolo Ohno
know him from adam: Apolo Ohno

From today's Denver Post: "Short-track speed skaters typically are not heard from in mid-June. But then, Apolo Anton Ohno is not your typical short-track speed skater. A gold-medal winner in the 1,500 meters and silver-medal winner in the 1,000 at the 2002 Winter Olympics, Ohno is in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday to accept the 2002 Citizenship Through Sports Alliance Award, which the United States Olympic Committee will present for the sportsmanship he has demonstrated."
Why doesn't someone actually publicize these things?? Anyway, Adam Schefter's Q&A with Apolo is great! Read it here.

Citizenship Through Sports Alliance Award
More on the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance Award:
Web site of the Citizenship Through Sports Alliance: www.sportsmanship.org
Press release: Citizenship Through Sports Alliance to host fifth annual awards reception
"Tickets for the event are $1000 for a table and $75 for an individual" -- it may be too late, but if we have any Florida fans out there, details are here.
Via the Philadelphia Phillies and MLB.com:
"Jim Thome will be one of 14 athletes honored at the fifth annual Citizenship Through Sports Alliance Awards Reception. The event will take place on Sunday evening at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, FL. Thome was nominated for the award by Major League Baseball, which is a supporter of the CTSA. Thome will be unable to attend due to his baseball schedule. CTSA is paying tribute to "athletes with the highest ethical standards in sport, whose lives and careers have reflected an enduring commitment to citizenship, sportsmanship and community service." Other athletes being honored include Adam Graves, San Jose Sharks (NHL); Shelton Quarles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL); Bob Lanier, NBA Hall of Famer; and Apolo Anton Ohno, US Speedskater."
