from the Webmeisters
Janey, Apolo's agent, confirms that the two pics below are from a signing event in Anaheim last month. She also asks that we keep our fingers crossed that he wins his category (Best U.S. Olympian) at the upcoming ESPY Awards (hand check everyone: let's see those crossed fingers!) Go Apolo!

Here is another ebay live story from newcomer Nyla -- welcome!
Hello everyone! I'm new here. Is there like an Apoloholics Anonymous somewhere b-cuz I'm freakin' addicted! Help! Oh well. I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Apolo @ Ebay Live! I was 3rd in line...bad idea...needed more time to compose myself...he even left real quick to freshen up (I think he went to the bathroom to wet down his hair...yes, I noticed). It'd take too long to describe my embarrassing experience but let's just say I had this huge zit on my chin and the first words out of my mouth???...no, not "Hi, nice to meet you" (I completely forgot to introduce myself)...but more like "God, it's hot in here, haah?" (of course it was probably him making me feel that way). It just got worse after that so I'll stop right there. I wish I could apologize to Apolo for my stupidity. Please forgive me! My friend even felt sorry for me b-cuz I wasn't myself. Anyways, I've got some pictures I'd like to share w/ you all. The scanned versions aren't that great and I also didn't have the balls to take pictures when he was looking at the camera. I didn't want to flash his eyes out. He signed my SI sexiest guy photo and he said it was the first time he saw it. I found out about Ebay Live from this site so I'm forever indebted to you guys--so THANK YOU Ohnozone peeps!
A friendly reminder: If you meant to donate to the In Apolo's Name project and have not done so, now is the perfect time! The project is off to a fabulous start with over $1700 raised so far. Check out the awesome tally board that Velma put together. While you're there, read about the project, and get the info on how and where to donate. If one person will spend $6000 for a skating lesson from Apolo, maybe all us fans together can raise $10,000 to get a room at the new Ronald McDonald House in Apolo's name! http://www.geocities.com/inapolosname

Jill and a friend are putting together a magazine called Short Track Monthly, a brand new newsletter made by the fans, for the fans. It will feature all the latest news and appearances plus upcoming interviews from short trackers and their friends/families, reviews and stories from fans and articles from upcoming speed skaters. Click here for more info, including details of the July issue
Shani Davis in DC Yesterday was great! I had a ton of fun meeting Shani and some other fans, like Terry (aka speedmaiden, from AAO The One and Only site), Angela and others. Shani and all the fans are great! The speedskating community just seems to be made up of nothing but nice folks. Shani's visit was arranged by Terry's Maryland speedskating club. He skated yesterday with a new DC club formed for inner-city youth. It was my first time seeing any of the speedskaters on ice, and it was exciting to watch. Shani demonstrated a bunch of his moves, like the relay switches (i.e., the "tush push"), and he and some of the more advanced skaters did some racing. There was also free skating time where anyone who wanted to could strap on their skates and get out there on the ice. After the skating ended, Shani posed for lots of pics and signed autographs. The kids really loved him, and he is fantastic with them. Shani is a really sweet, considerate guy -- he had time for everyone and seemed to enjoy himself yesterday. He also worked with one of the local coaches here, and plans to come back to DC to train with him again. Later we regrouped and went out to dinner (Shani, Terry, some of the other local speedskating folks, Angela and me). Shani was wearing a bright yellow, patterned shirt. I took one look and thought he and Apolo must shop at the same store! Shani is considering either moving to Marquette, where he can go to school and train at the same time, or perhaps spend some time training in Calgary. Here's the coolest part -- Shani plans to compete both long-track AND short-track in the upcoming season. He's skated both all his life. He expects to compete at upcoming races in Calgary and Saratoga Springs and he mentioned two other comps but I don't remember which ones now. I asked him if anyone else has ever competed in the same season on both LT and ST teams, and he didn't think so. GO SHANI!
