Ohno Zone Interview, June 2003 Bradbury page 1 | 2
OZ: Are you still involved in making boots for skaters? SB: Yes, i'm still involved with RBC, not making boots anymore though. We are planning on moving into a factory in the next 6-12 months and then making our mark on the standard boot market. Check out our boots, ankle boosters and other products at www.rbcsport.com. OZ: Your teammate Stephen Lee described RBC's world headquarters as being a 'shed in someone's backyard.' Is that accurate? SB: That is Clint Jensen's backyard, my business partner in RBC. Our operation is pretty small and needs to be to satisfy the sport's elite. Handmade boots and attention to each individual's needs is what sets us apart from other companies. We have big plans for growing the company but will always maintain our attention to detail. OZ: How long has Apolo been an RBC customer? How did that happen? SB: I think Apolo's first pair of RBC's was in late 1998. The now ex-US coach Stephen Gough has been a long-time friend of mine and knew the quality of our boots, he guided Apolo in the right direction. Whilst being one of the world's best skaters, Apolo is undoubtedly a fussy little bugger when it comes to his boots. Actually he has recently received a new pair. We are waiting for his feedback, but not holding our breath!!!! OZ: I heard you decided to become a firefighter after retiring from competitive skating. How did you decide you wanted to be a firefigher, and how is it working out? SB: I have always wanted to become a fireman. I have been accepted and have been on the waiting list about 15 months now. This is a good thing because I'm still doing a lot of promotional work and corporate speaking, but when the time is right I'll be there. OZ: Just for fun - let's play Short Track Survivor: You, Apolo, Fabio, Jiajun, Dong Sung, Monette, Smith, Gagnon, and that little Korean guy Ahn live in a house in the Alps. Who's the first one voted off? Who is the last one standing? SB: The first one off - easy, that's Rusty Smith. Once he is out, there might be a few seconds of silence. On second thoughts I have not heard Dong Sung sing yet, but I imagine he's not that good. Everyone knows who the last man standing is!!! On Survivor it would be no different!!! More on Steven Bradbury: Steven Bradbury was interviewed by Noelle Neu exclusively for Ohnozone.net. [Ohno Zone Home] Bradbury page 1 | 2 |
